Throughout this module I feel that my research skills have developed further, I find it easier to process information and find more research that is relevant to the projects, this has helped inform my work throughout the module. I have also learned more about stop frame animation and image sequence, which I found really interesting and I know it will be useful in the future.
2. What approaches to/ methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
For the group brief, my group and I created an installation piece, we faced many problems with this however I'm glad that we were brave enough to try something different and not just print based, in the future I will be more willing to try again with installation pieces using the knowledge I gained from this project. I feel that the stamp brief has made me a more confident worker, the restrictions and technicalities of the brief is usually something I run away from however now I know that restrictions like size just make the brief more interesting. Looking back over the module I'm annoyed that all my final outcomes are computer generated but I'm happy that I've had a chance to draw more and use hand-drawn typography in places aswell. I also feel that since the beginning of the year, not just in this module, my idea generation is so much quicker, I have definitely found all the workshops useful as before I would as Fred said 'wait for inspiration to come.'
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
In this module I can see that I've been using colour more willingly but mostly just block colour. I would like to use more colour in my work in the future. I have also drawn a lot more throughout this project and would love to expand on this by doing more in depth and detailed drawings to then improve on illustrator with colour etc.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
I regret that I haven't applied any new processes in this module but I have now had screen print and laser cut inductions and am really looking forward to putting these into practice. In the future when I'm drawing up design sheets I intend to think more about the process and then I will be able to plan my time accordingly. Also when designing on illustrator my work is starting to have a style that I don't particularly like so I intend to learn a few more techniques and try referencing other designers and illustrators work to vary my influences.
5. Identify 5 things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. I will be more experimental at the beginning of briefs and take more time designing final designs, hopefully my work will be more informed and be more interesting to view.
2. I will use other, more hands on processes to vary my finished pieces.
3. I will book digital/screen print/laser cutting slots in advance to avoid disappointment and be generally more organised with work.
4. When blogging instead of just uploading pictures and leaving the writing til later, I intend to blog the process better as comparing my annotation to other people's I could probably do to be more thorough.
5. Spend more time working on design work instead of thinking that I have done enough, because usually I could definitely do more.
